Painting the Pipes, Perking up Downtown Fairbanks
The Downtown Association of Fairbanks and Project Fairbanks
have teamed up to add some sparkle to Fairbanks by having local artists paint the vent pipes in the downtown area.

The central business area is underlain by a grid of pipes carrying steam from the Aurora Energy power plant (on the south bank of
the Chena River) to provide heat to downtown buildings. The utilidors carrying the steam pipes need to be vented, and it is these above-ground vent pipes that are being painted.

The pipe painting project will be completed by the end of this month. Here are photos of some of the pipes already painted.
The designs run the gamut: musk oxen, snowflakes, dancing bears and moose, even Marilyn Monroe wearing bunny boots. For
