Creeping juniper in fading winter light

The Fairbanks area received three to four inches of new snow last night and today, one of the most significant snowfalls we’ve had this winter. Here is a photo of a creeping juniper (Juniperus horizontalis) in my front yard, bowed under the weight of the new snow. I took the photo this afternoon, about 3:00 p.m., as our winter evening was coming on. Although creeping juniper usually grows low to the ground, this particular plant for some reason decided to send a branch reaching for the sky. By the way, creeping juniper is a native Alaska species.
