Arctic Mountain Avens and Arctic Diapensia along U.S. Creek Road – Steese Highway – 5-28-2014
Saw these wildflowers at the top of the ridge between the Chatanika River and Nome Creek drainages. Both plants are low–no more than 6″ high.
I think this is Arctic Mountain Avens (Dryas integrifolia Vahl). Usually found at lower elevations in open rocky and gravelly areas, it is sometimes found in tundra and alpine settings.
Arctic Diapensia, also called Lapland Diapensia (Diapensia lapponica L.). It is found in gravelly spots in tundra and alpine areas throughout most of Alaska.
